Mocktail or cocktail

Lavender Lemonade

Mocktail or cocktail. Fresh lemon and lavender syrup over ice, with gin optional. The one everyone at the table can drink.

Ingredients

Makes 1 drink

  • 1 oz lavender simple syrup
  • 1 oz fresh lemon juice
  • 4 oz cold water or soda water
  • 1.5 oz gin (optional, to make it a cocktail)
  • Ice, lemon wheel and a lavender sprig

Method

  1. Fill a tall glass with ice.
  2. Add the lavender syrup, lemon juice and the gin if you are using it.
  3. Top with cold water for a still lemonade, or soda water for a sparkling one.
  4. Stir, then garnish with a lemon wheel and a lavender sprig.

This is the workhorse: bright, floral and endlessly adjustable. Leave the gin out and it is a lavender lemonade the whole table can enjoy. Add a measure and it is a long, easy cocktail for a hot Okanagan afternoon.

Adjust the syrup to taste, since lemons vary. Begin with a batch of lavender simple syrup, or keep a bottle of Bench & Bloom in the fridge for exactly this.

Skip the steeping. Ours is already dialled in.
